Steadicam equipment modular design and zoom control system specifications

20 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • A modular steadicam design allows quick conversion between different weight configurations without tools, whereas some manufacturers require purchasing an entirely new rig for different weight ranges.
  • A new hardwired zoom control system called BUZ was in development with estimated pricing under $1000 for the complete package including controller and cables.
  • The BUZ zoom system accepts multiple connector types including 8-pin Tajimi, 6-pin Hirose, and 12-pin Hirose to accommodate different camera systems.
  • BUZ electronics module pricing was estimated at $500-600, with additional costs for controller options and cable configurations.
  • The BUZ system can be daisy-chained from a BFD power source and uses the same power connection standard.

Depends on

  • Pricing and specifications are from 2006 and may have changed.
  • Discussion references equipment under development with final specifications not yet confirmed.
  • Some technical details are incomplete as the product was still in prototype stage.
