Flying an Amira camera on a Zephyr aerial platform
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- An Amira camera with CP2 lenses, follow focus motor, and accessories can be mounted on a Zephyr platform and will fly successfully.
- The Amira can be powered via 12V input from the Zephyr sled, eliminating the need for separate camera batteries.
- Adding an extra battery hanger to the Zephyr allows powering the camera, follow focus motor, wireless video transmission, and external monitor simultaneously at 24V.
- The total weight of an Amira setup with mattebox pushes toward the upper limit of what a Zephyr can carry.
- Custom power cables connecting the Zephyr sled to the Amira and accessories can be obtained from specialized vendors.
- The Amira may require the viewfinder attached to generate free-run timecode, which affects weight calculations.
Depends on
- Weight with all accessories approaches the maximum payload capacity of the Zephyr.
- Power delivery may approach system limits when powering multiple devices simultaneously from the sled battery.
- One user reported uncertainty about whether a firmware update resolved an issue with timecode generation without a viewfinder attached.
- Official Arri specifications do not consistently provide weight information for all camera accessories.
- Experience is limited to a single confirmed successful flight.
