Mounting motor driver receivers to camera support systems with incompatible hole spacing

What the thread found
- Different dovetail plate manufacturers use different screw hole spacing that may not align with motor driver brackets: Arri-compatible brackets use 60mm and 100mm rod spacing, Glidecam plates have 52mm spacing, and PRO plates have approximately 49mm spacing
- Adding a mounting plate or extension to the end of an existing dovetail plate can provide additional surface area to drill custom holes that match receiver bracket requirements
- Motor driver receivers can be mounted to camera handles using hot shoe mounts as an alternative to rod-mounted installation
- Velcro mounting of motor driver receivers is convenient but less reliable than fixed brackets for professional follow-focus work
- A standardized hole pattern for motor driver brackets has become common among professional manufacturers like Preston, BFD, Scorpio, Fox, and Genio, typically using two or three holes positioned on camera junction boxes
Depends on
- The specific Glidecam model lacked sufficient metal thickness in its dovetail for tapping new holes directly
- Some dovetail plate combinations like XCS and BFD brackets are incompatible despite being used on similar equipment
- The standardized PRO hole pattern may not match older camera systems or all equipment configurations
- Solutions depend on camera type and rig configuration specifics
