Vibration in image when running or sprinting with Steadicam® Zephyr (camera ~6–7 kg): loose Top Stage and rig balance

What the thread found

  • One operator experienced identical vibration and found the Top Stage had play; tightening the four screws beneath the SDI connectors (front and rear) eliminated the vibration.
  • Camera build geometry is decisive: a monitor or recorder mounted high and off-center, combined with the camera secured by only one attachment point on the dovetail plate, generates vibration; Magic Arms worsen this effect.
  • The recommended solution is to construct a rigid, compact rig shape: remove auxiliary weights and external monitor, relocate the recorder to a lower fixed position, and move the monitor and lower battery pack closer to the post.
  • Tape-based vibration isolation of batteries does not address root causes.
  • After reconfiguration, vibration was nearly eliminated; residual motion in testing was attributable to wind and incorrect fall time.

Depends on

  • Camera weight and distribution
  • Number and position of attachment points
  • Monitor and accessory placement relative to the post
