What the thread found

• The Modulus 3000 experienced severe range and signal quality problems in Manhattan and on the open deck of an aircraft carrier museum, while functioning normally in Philadelphia and other cities with tall buildings.
• Midtown Manhattan presents extreme RF interference challenges for wireless video systems.
• Custom antennas cut to the operating frequency improve performance compared to stock antennas included with the Modulus.
• Better quality tuners with improved RF filtering help maintain signal stability in high-interference areas like New York City.
• Switching between different transmission channels showed no meaningful improvement in problem areas.
• Alternative wireless video assist systems designed for HD use demonstrated superior stability and picture quality in NYC compared to the Modulus.
• Multiple wireless video assist units operating simultaneously can function in Times Square.
• FCC regulations require licensing, coordination with local TV stations, and minimum distance separation for wireless video assist devices in the United States.

Depends on

• The original poster only tested the basic Modulus 3000 model without premium antenna options.
• No specific comparison testing was conducted between stock and custom antennas.
• The aircraft carrier location involved metal structures that may have contributed to additional interference beyond typical urban RF noise.
• The report involves anecdotal experience from specific 2009 shoots and may not represent all usage scenarios.
• Discussion includes unresolved speculation about government frequency band changes affecting device legality.
• No systematic testing of different tuner models was documented.
