Weight limits for cinema cameras on gyro-stabilized aerial rigs
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Arri 435 with magazine, lens, focus motor, and receiver exceeds the 19-pound maximum capacity of a Flyer LE system
- An Arri LT camera at minimum setup weighs approximately 23.5 pounds, which is significantly over the 15-pound limit of a second-generation Flyer
- The Arri 435 proved too heavy when tested on a Zephyr rig
- An Arri 235 with a 200-foot magazine, prime lens, focus motor, clip-on matte box, and video transmitter can operate successfully on a Flyer LE system
- The weight of the sled itself must be included in the total weight calculation, which can cause the system to exceed its maximum capacity
Depends on
- Testing was conducted on Flyer LE and Zephyr systems with specific maximum weight ratings
- The Arri 235 configuration mentioned worked with a prime lens rather than a zoom lens, which adds weight
- No comprehensive specifications provided for all tested accessories and their individual weights
