Adapter plate options for smaller dovetail mounts on Zephyr tripod heads
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- No commercial adapter plate was available for mounting standard-size dovetail plates to Zephyr tripod heads as of 2013
- A spacer can be used to adapt standard-size equipment to work with smaller dovetail sizes
- Custom adapters for smaller dovetail systems can be fabricated using a mill and dovetail cutters
- A drop-and-lock adapter design for Zephyr can be created by milling a dovetail holder matching the Zephyr sled dimensions and securing it with thumbscrews along the edge
Depends on
- This discussion dates from 2013 and availability of commercial solutions may have changed since then
- Custom fabrication requires access to milling equipment and dovetail cutters
- The drop-and-lock design mentioned was still in development and described as not elegant
- Zephyr has a more complex locking mechanism compared to earlier models like the Flyer, making adaptation more challenging
