AJA Cion camera initial impressions and technical limitations
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
DisputedParticipants disagreed and reached no conclusion. Read the findings as positions, not as an answer.
What the thread found
- The camera features a 12-stop dynamic range sensor
- Connectors are located on the right side of the body, creating potential handling challenges for left-handed operators
- A cutout hump on the back of the camera can cause front-heavy balance when used with standard lenses without additional support
- The operating temperature range is specified as 5 to 40 degrees Celsius, which limits use in cold environments
- A front baseplate is available as an option to mount rods directly to the camera, and a rear baseplate option also exists
- Log recording was not yet active at the time of the NAB announcement
- The sensor performance was considered slow compared to contemporary standards
Depends on
- Information is from 2014, early in the camera's availability
- Log recording capability status was not finalized at time of discussion
- Sensor specifications may have been subject to future updates
- Temperature limitation is specifically problematic in winter climates below 5 degrees Celsius
- Assessment reflects pre-release or early production unit feedback
