BFD wireless focus control system not establishing link between transmitter and receiver

19 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • Verify that both transmitter and receiver are set to the same channel using the channel selector potentiometer.
  • Ensure the calibrate switch is positioned in the middle.
  • Test all available channels to rule out a channel selection problem.
  • Remove any Modulus units placed on top of the receiver, or position it below channel 50 and as far from the receiver as possible.
  • Transmitter and receiver units with different chip upgrade versions will not communicate with each other.
  • Confirm all cables are isolated and cell phones are turned off during calibration.
  • Accidentally inserting a power connector into the data input socket instead of the correct port can blow an internal fuse, preventing receiver function.
  • A faulty RF module in the receiver can prevent signal reception from the transmitter.
  • Direct contact with the manufacturer's technical support can provide remote diagnostics and troubleshooting over the phone.

Depends on

  • The specific cause in this instance was traced to a faulty RF module, which required warranty replacement.
  • The troubleshooting sequence documented here represents one user's experience and may not cover all failure modes.
  • Some suggestions such as transmitter and receiver chip version mismatches are based on anecdotal reports rather than comprehensive testing.
