Mounting and using the Marshall V-LCD-HI digital level on monitor rigs
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Marshall digital level unit must be positioned flat and horizontal rather than vertically along the mounting pole.
- Rotating a PIAA tube clamp bracket 90 degrees allows vertical mounting of the Marshall level with a 1/4-20 connection, with horizontal axis readout only.
- Response delay from the level can be reduced by increasing sensitivity to maximum in the device menu settings.
- The Marshall level is not universal and only compatible with certain Marshall monitor models due to hardware limitations on older units.
- Mini USB connection reliability is a known weakness, with reports of port failures occurring within days of initial use.
- The device exhibits occasional glitches including false angle readings and periodic loss of display output requiring power cycling.
- Competing options for digital leveling include external solutions like the PDL system, which some operators prefer for reliability.
- The Marshall level is described as a low-end solution lacking motion compensation and not suitable for all operational scenarios.
Depends on
- The PIAA bracket mounting method described may not work with newer bracket models.
- Compatibility with Marshall's newer modular monitor series is uncertain.
- User experiences with reliability and performance appear inconsistent across different units.
- The device sensitivity adjustment only partially addresses response delay issues.
