Installing Tiffen M1 Volt gimbal on MKV 1.5 inch camera sled

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • The M1 Gimbal designed for PRO systems includes an adapter sleeve to fit 1.5 inch center posts and can work with PRO arm posts
  • Low-mode bracket holes on some PRO setups were positioned 90 degrees offset from PRO arm post holes, requiring drilling adjustment by a machinist
  • The M1 Volt gimbal was successfully installed on an MKV sled by replacing the original gimbal
  • Switching between standard and low mode on the Volt gimbal takes approximately one minute
  • An experienced camera operator found the Volt gimbal delivered stable results after an initial learning period with the system controls

Depends on

  • Only the GPI PRO gimbal is confirmed as adaptable to the Volt among non-Tiffen gimbals
  • Custom modifications like shortened gimbal handles would require independent machinist work as manufacturer engineers prioritize other projects
  • The hole positioning issue was noted as fixed in later versions
  • Experience comes from use on a specific television production with particular shooting requirements
