Running SR2 camera from steadicam rig power instead of on-board batteries
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
DisputedParticipants disagreed and reached no conclusion. Read the findings as positions, not as an answer.
What the thread found
- The SR2 camera operates on 12 volt power with a 4-pin XLR connector
- The camera can be powered from a steadicam rig's power distribution system using the standard 4-pin XLR connector by removing the battery adapter
- When powering the SR2 from rig batteries rather than on-board batteries, the video tap output should be confirmed to be powered from the camera body rather than the battery to avoid power issues
Depends on
- One participant reported being told by an Arri employee never to run SR2 from lithium batteries due to risk of main board damage, creating uncertainty about lithium battery safety with this camera despite successful use by others
- The discussion does not clarify the maximum safe voltage range for the SR2 or whether all power supply configurations are equally safe
