Powering an Arri SR3 camera from a Clipper 324 sled's 24V connector

16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • An Arri SR3 camera can be powered from a Clipper 324 sled's 24V Lemo connector without issues, even when voltage approaches the upper acceptable limit.
  • Voltage from a Clipper 324 with two Steadicam cubes starts around 33.28V and drops to approximately 32.20V within the first minute of use, remaining within acceptable operating parameters.
  • Using sled power instead of camera battery can reduce weight on the stabilizing arm, though the camera battery can alternatively serve as ballast for balance.
  • Additional powered devices on the sled such as follow focus systems and video transmitters will draw additional current and further reduce voltage.

Depends on

  • The advice is based on experience with Clipper 324 and PowerCube batteries, not exhaustive testing across all conditions.
  • This approach assumes familiarity with acceptable voltage ranges and camera protection mechanisms.
