Mounting a Marshall HD monitor on a Zephyr sled and relocating BNC connectors
14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found
- The Marshall V-LCD70MD 7-inch monitor mount lacks pin holes for securing the monitor, causing it to rotate; using rubber or star lock washers at the mounting point helps reduce this movement.
- The Zephyr sled has two video connectors: an SD-BNC and an HD-BNC, with the HD-BNC meeting proper SMPTE HD-SDI standards while the SD-BNC does not.
- The top stage plastic cover can be opened by removing the underside screws; the BNC and Lemo connectors sit in grooves within the plastic and can sometimes be repositioned if sufficient cable slack exists.
- Cable length varies between individual Zephyr units; some have enough slack to swap connector positions while others do not, particularly after factory tally upgrades that may reduce available cable.
- HD-SDI video signals can be routed through the SD-BNC connector to a monitor using an aftermarket Hirose-to-BNC cable, though signal strength may be slightly reduced.
- A Hirose connector breakout cable for the bottom sled connector costs approximately 470 dollars from the manufacturer and carries both video and power signals.
- Alternative power solutions include using D-Tap or P-Tap cables to power the monitor independently, allowing use of the HD video lines for primary signal.
- Aftermarket Hirose-to-BNC video and power cables can be custom fabricated or sourced from third parties and may include tally signal integration.
Depends on
- Cable length and routing space varies by individual unit and manufacturing year, limiting whether connector relocation is possible.
- The SD-BNC connector is not guaranteed by SMPTE standards for HD-SDI, though users report it functions adequately in practice.
- Custom cable solutions and modifications require either fabrication skills or sourcing from third-party vendors not officially documented in manufacturer materials.
- Tiffen factory upgrades such as the tally modification may alter internal routing and prevent previously possible connector swaps.
