Mounting Preston digital microforce bracket on FI+Z follow focus unit while retaining the thick rubber handgrip
21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The standard Preston bracket for mounting the digital microforce is too short to accommodate the thick moulded rubber handgrip on the FI+Z unit
- The rubber handgrip can be modified by cutting away material on the back and side—removing approximately one finger's worth of grip width—to allow the standard Preston bracket and microforce to fit alongside it
- Using reversible velcro fasteners instead of adhesive to attach the handgrip allows for easy removal when the microforce bracket needs to be mounted
Depends on
- This solution involves permanently modifying the handgrip through cutting
- The modification reduces the gripping surface by one finger position
- Experience reported is from a single operator's setup
- No alternative solutions or commercial products are mentioned as available
