Compatibility between BFD focus controller and Heden motors for follow focus applications
21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Heden motors designated with a T suffix contain a tachometer for speed monitoring and cannot be used with focus control systems that require position feedback
- Heden motors designated with a P suffix contain a potentiometer for position monitoring and can be connected to focus controllers like the BFD
- Heden motors designated with PT suffix contain both tachometer and potentiometer and work with focus controllers, requiring a different cable connector than P-only motors
- Focus control systems need position information via potentiometer to function, while zoom controllers need speed information via tachometer
- The M26P Heden motor uses a 5-pin connector while PT variant motors use a 7-pin connector
Depends on
- The specific cable pinout details were not confirmed in this discussion
- No alternative solutions or workarounds were discussed for using T-suffix motors with focus controllers
