Using an A-30 arm with an Archer-2 sled for lightweight builds, and rig growth path.
What the thread found
- The Steadicam® A-30 arm is weight-feasible for small builds, but performs poorly at the extremes of its boom range; of its stated 30-inch boom, only about half is reliably usable.
- With the A-30, realistic camera payload is under 10 kg; the Archer-2 sled itself carries approximately 15 kg, and several additional kilograms with the Volt gimbal yoke upgrade.
- The Steadicam® Zephyr vest is adequate as a starting point and can also support larger arms, but may flex under heavy load.
- Operators recommend upgrading to a larger arm relatively soon as the rig grows.
Depends on
- Boom usability depends on the specific arm model and its mechanical design.
- Payload capacity varies with gimbal yoke choice and total system weight.
