Spin-test comparison: ARRI Artemis 2 gimbal versus Tiffen M2 with retrofit PRO bearing for free rotation.

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • In an informal test at equal sled weight (approximately 17.4 kg), the M2 with PRO bearing consistently spun longer than the Artemis 2.
  • The ARRI gimbal is engineered for Trinity deployment with minimal play, resulting in slightly higher friction; both PRO and M2 use identical Kaydon bearings.
  • One operator cautioned that the comparison is skewed because the Tiffen sled carried a heavy, cantilevered monitor, which increases rotational mass and preserves momentum; a fair test would require identical setups or swapped monitor and battery placement.
  • Spinning a complete sled by the spigot alone poses risk; one operator reported a broken spigot and a rig falling to the ground from this practice.

Depends on

  • Sled weight and distribution (monitor and battery placement)
  • Bearing preload tuning specific to rig type (Trinity versus independent sled)
  • Test methodology and repeatability
