Replacement options for broken channel buttons on Modulus video equipment

19 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • The original channel buttons on Modulus units have a mushroom-shaped plastic post that breaks easily and cannot be replaced as individual parts because the design is no longer manufactured.
  • Attempting to solder new switches directly to the board can damage the board severely, resulting in expensive replacement costs that exceed the original repair estimate.
  • Cramped Attic offers a module replacement solution for approximately $175 per button that uses improved potentiometers designed to resist being knocked off, with the tradeoff that the witness mark position rotates 90 degrees compared to the original design.
  • Cramped Attic also performs additional adjustments to address other issues during the repair process.

Depends on

  • The pricing and availability information is from 2007 and may no longer be current.
  • Only one repair shop name and contact information was verified in the discussion; other potential repair options were mentioned but not confirmed.
