Cinetronic Gen2 monitor performance, usability, and power management issues for cinema camera rigs

13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • Display viewing angles perform well across various lighting conditions, achieving ratings comparable to reference monitors in outdoor situations.
  • Factory color settings require manual adjustment with reduced red and green values to achieve neutral color rendering.
  • Menu structure is deeply nested and cumbersome, making quick access to essential controls like frame lines and format settings difficult during operation.
  • Frame line and display settings unexpectedly reset to factory defaults without user input after powering the monitor on and off.
  • Mounting holes do not align with the monitor's center of gravity, particularly when a battery is attached to the back, creating balance issues for Steadicam rigs.
  • The 8-pin Lemo power connector lacks a diode, allowing battery backfeed into the sled which can damage diodes in the A/B plate through overheating.
  • Monitor overheating causes pixel failure starting after approximately 9 minutes of direct sunlight exposure at full backlight settings.
  • Polarized sunglasses exhibit compatibility issues depending on operator body position and technique.

Depends on

  • Testing was performed on a single unit with specific Steadicam sled configurations.
  • Overheating test was conducted on a demo unit at ambient temperatures of 25-26 degrees Celsius on a warm terrace surface.
  • Some menu issues were noted to potentially be resolved by firmware updates released after the review.
  • Pixel-to-pixel mode frame positioning capabilities were not fully understood by the reviewer.
  • Compatibility concerns are specific to systems configured with parallel batteries in 12V mode or shared video accessory circuits.
