Choosing a steadicam rig and learning about different brands before purchase
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- Attending a manufacturer-neutral workshop provides hands-on experience with multiple steadicam brands before making a purchase decision.
- Building a steadicam system by purchasing individual components separately allows customization, as demonstrated by combining a Tiffen M2 sled with a Volt stabilizer and G50x arm.
- Workshops specific to steadicam operation are available in various regions and can guide equipment selection based on camera payload requirements.
Depends on
- The specific payload capacity recommendation for 12-15 kg camera rigs was requested but not definitively answered in the thread.
- The discussion does not provide detailed comparisons between the different brands mentioned (GPI Pro, Arri Trinity, Sachtler Artemis, Tiffen) regarding their actual performance or suitability.
- Purchasing components separately versus complete kits was suggested as an option but the trade-offs and reasoning were not fully elaborated.
