J-7 follow focus zoom control malfunctions during live shooting
20 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Uncontrolled zoom movement on a J-7 connected to a Canon 8-pin lens can result from cable wiring issues or disconnection at the connector junction where the cable enters the device.
- A loose or unsoldered wire inside the J-7, particularly one related to VTR or run functions, may cause intermittent zoom activation.
- The J-7 experienced reliability issues with newer digital lenses and had problems with zoom creep.
- Cable routing around gimbal connections is subject to kinking and twisting that can damage internal wiring over time.
