Steadicam® Volt 3 firmware update (end 2025): motor power increase, vibration notch filter, and operator feedback on daily studio use.
What the thread found
- According to manufacturer notes, the update increases roll and tilt motor force by approximately 18 percent, enabling faster and more controlled transitions with improved horizon and tilt hold.
- Pan response becomes more pronounced at steep angles above approximately 45 degrees.
- A new notch filter for vibration control on lightweight or unstable camera rigs is accessible via the right control in menu 2 and applies to all scene presets.
- A daily operator in a television studio reports that incorrect tuning causes the Volt 3 to fight the operator and ruins shots, whereas correct tuning makes the device very valuable.
- Requested software features include: startup in the last-used mode instead of requiring a long button press each time; ability to disable the program LED (which reflects in the monitor and required taping over); and key lock to prevent accidental adjustment.
- Requested hardware improvements include: rotary encoders instead of potentiometers (values jump when switching sides in the menu, making tuning tedious); display positioned too deep under the controls and not visible during working position; and controls duplicated on both sides of the sled.
- The manufacturer collects feature requests via a form; multiple operators have requested that the Volt 3 also be offered for non-Tiffen sleds.
Depends on
- Tuning sensitivity and effectiveness depend on camera weight and rig stability.
- Notch filter function varies with scene preset selection.
