Custom bracket and yoke mount system for Steadicam Pilot and Scout rigs to improve monitor positioning and balance adjustment
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A custom CNC-machined bracket system allows independent adjustment of monitor position and battery position on Pilot and Scout rigs, similar to the Zephyr design
- The modification enables adjustment of monitor height and panning inertia while minimizing effects on rig balance
- The system works with monitors featuring 1/4-20 side-mount threads, including Marshall, Steadicam, TVLogic, and some SmallHD models
- The bracket clamps onto 15mm rods which mount to the rig post at a measured diameter of 23.9mm
- The design was developed for group manufacturing to share production costs of approximately 200 USD per complete set
- The Pilot, Scout, Zephyr, and Archer models share the same carbon fiber post dimensions
- Monitors without side-mount threads can be mounted using 15mm brackets and a ball head adapter instead
Depends on
- The system was designed with Marshall and Steadicam 7-inch HD monitors as the primary reference
- Not all 7-inch monitors are compatible due to varying mount thread availability
- Compatibility with Flyer LE post dimensions remains unconfirmed
- Small HD AC7 monitor was noted as lacking side-mount threads and would require alternative mounting methods
- The modification provides minimal benefit for Zephyr rigs which already have similar monitor positioning flexibility
