Sony FS5 SDI signal intermittently cutting out on V-LCD70XHB monitor when connected to Zephyr steadicam
What the thread found
- When using a Sony FS5 with a Zephyr steadicam setup, connecting the camera SDI output to both the monitor and camera viewfinder simultaneously will cause the monitor signal to drop when recording starts.
- The Zephyr steadicam has separate signal paths: the HD-SDI input on the front of the top stage outputs a separate BNC signal on the bottom of the sled, requiring two distinct cables to the monitor - one BNC cable for video and one 3-pin Lemo cable for power.
- Intermittent SDI signal loss that requires cycling the monitor power to restore the image is typically caused by a defective SDI cable rather than port failure.
- The standard definition video port on the rear of the top stage outputs SD signal, not HD signal, and will not work with HD-SDI equipment.
Depends on
- The troubleshooting was specific to this user's setup and may not apply to other configurations.
- The exact cause of the intermittent signal loss in this case was not definitively confirmed before the discussion ended.
