Mounting a custom steel weight plate to camera equipment via dovetail attachment
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A single screw cannot pass through both a dovetail and a thick steel plate into a camera, requiring two separate fastening points instead
- Steel weight plates should have countersunk holes so bolt heads sit flush with the plate surface
- Threaded holes are tapped directly into the steel plate for camera mounting, while separate holes accommodate dovetail plate attachment
- A half-inch thick steel plate measuring approximately 5 by 10 inches with recessed bolt holes provides adequate weight for stabilization
- Hardware store bolts in standard sizes can be used for weight plate assembly rather than specialized camera equipment fasteners
Depends on
- The discussion involves dovetail mounting specific to one camera or brand, limiting applicability to other systems
- Specific weight requirements and dimensions are based on individual project needs
- No detailed technical specifications provided for bolt lengths or other precise measurements
