Finding and selecting Steadicam operator workshops for beginners and progression training
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- Multiple workshop options exist beyond the main Tiffen program, including offerings from Sachtler Artemis, Steadicam Guild Master Class, GPI Pro Workshop, and independent instructors.
- A full week Tiffen workshop typically includes six instructors and covers enough material to benefit even those with prior experience.
- Tiffen workshops typically include accommodation and meals in the workshop fee, requiring attendees to budget primarily for travel.
- Master Class workshops are available for operators who have already completed an initial workshop, with most offerings lasting two days.
- Custom one-on-one workshop training can be tailored to individual schedules and learning needs, and may include business and marketing guidance beyond technical instruction.
- Workshop participants often conduct additional camera operator training to complement Steadicam-specific instruction.
- A typical progression involves completing a full beginner workshop before considering advanced or specialized training options.
