Training weight plate with integrated Steadicam® dovetail to simulate ALEXA Mini rig weight using a lightweight DSLR
What the thread found
- A prototype steel plate approximately 5 kg, 32 cm long and 3 cm high, with integrated Steadicam® dovetail, keeps the main gimbal plate from accidentally remaining attached to a practice camera.
- A DSLR plus V-Mount battery mounted on such a plate approximates the weight of a small ALEXA Mini setup.
- The integrated dovetail features Artemis/PRO-nut slots and four M4 threaded holes for conventional safety screws.
- Estimated production cost for a small batch is 200–300 USD, made to order.
- Operators requested 1/4-20 threads for rail blocks at both ends, through-holes for both 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 fasteners, and a lighter variant around 4 kg.
- Tolerance fit with existing plates was noted as a concern.
- The design is not compatible with Steadicam® Aero, which uses a smaller plate type.
Depends on
- Tolerances depend on compatibility with existing gimbal plates in use.
- Weight reduction options and final specifications depend on manufacturing capabilities and demand.
