Quick release baseplate compatibility and secure attachment for Pilot camera stabilizer
16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Manfrotto MN357 receiver can be mounted to a Pilot stage plate, but the original single screw connection provides insufficient thread engagement for safety.
- Adding a second screw by tapping additional threaded holes in the Manfrotto receiver and filing down the screw heads to clear the stage provides a more secure dual-screw attachment.
- The Manfrotto 577 receiver includes pre-threaded holes in 1/4 BSW and M6 sizes that may be usable for Pilot mounting, though compatibility with Pilot drill patterns should be verified before use.
- Standard Manfrotto quick release plates can be difficult to keep securely tightened during use.
Depends on
- The modifications described were performed on a Manfrotto MN357 and may require different adjustments for other models.
- Whether the pre-threaded holes in the 577 receiver align with Pilot drill patterns was not confirmed in the discussion.
- No recommendations were provided for alternative manufacturers or baseplate models.
- The discussion dates from 2010 and may reference equipment specifications that have since changed.
