Powering an Arri Alexa camera mounted on a Zephyr stabilizer with 24V battery system and connector compatibility
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- The 4-pin XLR cable supplied by the sled manufacturer is wired for 12V only and cannot deliver 24V power
- An Alexa camera body weighs nearly 14 pounds, and adding accessories like lenses, focus motors, transmitters and receivers can easily exceed 24 pounds total
- A Zephyr stabilizer can support approximately 25 pounds on the camera stage with an overall arm lift capacity around 36 pounds maximum
- Using 24V power delivery is preferable to 12V as it reduces strain on batteries
- Custom cable fabrication from specialized vendors is necessary to properly connect Fischer 2-pin Alexa battery connectors to the 3-pin Lemo sled connectors
- An Alexa can be successfully flown on a Zephyr when configured with lightweight lenses, onboard focus system mounted to sled dovetail via carbon rods, clip-on mattebox, and the rear battery removed
Depends on
- The power distribution system has not been fully tested and detailed specifications from manufacturers are unclear or inconsistent
- Successful operation depends heavily on careful weight management and component selection
- The monitor burnout incident reported suggests potential power distribution issues with multiple accessories that were not fully resolved in the discussion
