ARRI Trinity 2 remote head firmware instability, pan axis control issues, and calibration procedure to prevent malfunction.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- ARRI Trinity 2 systems delivered from September 2024 onwards have experienced firmware mismatches from factory, latency on RCP screen interface, head non-responsiveness after power-up, and loss of video signal or 12V power from the pan axis junction.
- Several operators report that software updates for wheels operation caused subsequent system instability and uncontrolled pan axis behavior during use.
- One operator experienced an uncontrolled high-speed endless pan in remote head configuration that could not be stopped via RCP and required physical intervention to halt the head.
- The SUP 3.0 firmware was pulled by ARRI due to these issues, with operators waiting for a production-stable version after nearly one year.
- One operator reports success with Trinity 2 full system operation by following a specific calibration sequence: power on without activating the head, calibrate pan axis, then calibrate gyro.
- A suggested solution is automatic calibration of pan and all other axes upon pan axis detection at startup with protocol verification.
Depends on
- Affects Trinity 2 systems with pan axis and wheels set installed from September 2024 onwards.
- Issues appear linked to firmware versions and calibration procedures during installation.
- Remote head configuration with cable rotation limits was involved in the runaway pan incident.
