Modifications and mounting solutions for Rock n Roller carts to transport camera equipment
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Rock n Roller cart handles are not rigid enough and tend to wiggle, making them unsuitable for mounting a camera rig dock even when the cart can support the weight required
- The metal on Rock n Roller cart handles is too thin and may shear under heavy loads if a dock bracket is attached directly to it
- A better approach than using handles is to build a mounting system that attaches to the cart's bottom shelf using steel brackets, avoiding stress on the handles
- Quick release pins can be used instead of bolts and thumbscrews for faster assembly and disassembly of camera rig docking systems on carts
- When mounting a shelf for camera equipment on a cart, the shelves must be strapped or latched together to prevent the weight on an upper mast from leveraging the opposite side of the shelf off the frame
Depends on
- Experience is mostly with Rock n Roller R6 and R12 models
- One user mentioned their cart supports up to 350 pounds with air-pressured tires, but weight capacity may vary by model
- The custom mounting solution described involves significant fabrication work and may require metalworking skills
