What the thread found
- The T.O.C. system initially lacked remote camera start and stop functionality, which was added in a later version shipping in April with both hardware and software modifications to the receiver and transmitter.
- A planned upgrade includes lens memory and calibration storage for multiple lens setups.
- The system uses a single receiver to operate 1, 2, or 3 channels rather than requiring multiple receivers attached to the camera for zoom and iris control.
- In an electromagnetically hostile environment with a particle accelerator, large electromagnetic experiments, and concrete lead shielding, the T.O.C. experienced intermittent signal dropout while a competing Preston unit maintained reliable operation.
- In conventional center buildings, the T.O.C. reportedly maintained stable wireless operation where most other wireless controls failed.
- Build quality of the T.O.C. hardware was described as excellent.
Depends on
- Wireless performance comparison was conducted in an extreme electromagnetic interference environment that may not be representative of typical use.
- The cost difference between the T.O.C. and competing Preston systems is significant, which may account for performance differences.
- The upgrade implementation approach for adding start-stop functionality was still under development at the time of discussion.
