Operating ARRI Trinity 2 and Transvideo Starlite monitor in extreme cold (below -20 °C).

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • The Transvideo Starlite monitor is rated to -25 °C and performs reliably in those conditions.
  • Battery capacity reduces to approximately one-third of normal output in extreme cold (below -24 °C), even when actively kept warm.
  • Heating batteries with thermal boxes or neoprene covers is essential for extended operation in extreme cold.
  • The Trinity 2 gimbal head itself operates without reported problems in temperatures down to -30 °C.
  • Programming critical functions to RCP (remote control panel) buttons is important because touchscreen responsiveness degrades significantly in cold conditions.

Depends on

  • The findings depend on the specific battery type and heating method used.
  • Battery performance degradation is temperature-dependent and may vary with battery age and chemistry.
