Steadicam plate mounting limitations on Panavision F900 and workarounds
20 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The steadicam plate for the F900 is bolted at four corners of the dovetail plate, which prevents forward and backward adjustment relative to the dovetail plate
- When using heavy lenses like the Panavision Digi primo zoom, the fixed steadicam plate position can prevent camera repositioning on the dovetail plate, forcing the use of heavy counterbalance batteries and additional weights
- An XCS plate or intermediate plate that attaches via 3/8" thread to the dovetail plate can resolve the mounting inflexibility issue
Depends on
- The limitation was experienced with a specific steadicam ratchet style (IIIA)
- The problem manifested in a particular production scenario with specific lens choices
- The discussion occurred in 2006 and may not reflect current equipment options
