Bartech wireless follow focus system experiencing signal loss and motor twitching in high-interference urban environments
14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Motor vibration and twitching followed by loss of handset signal can result from outdated firmware that handles RF interference poorly instead of rejecting it cleanly
- Faults in the transmitter CPU, RF module, or potentiometer can create intermittent signal problems that resemble RF interference
- Upgrading to half-wave antennas for both transmitter and receiver can triple the system range
- Larger aftermarket antennas are available through electronics suppliers and may improve signal strength in interference-heavy locations
- Checking that the CPU chip and RF module are fully seated in their sockets can resolve intermittent connection issues
- In high-RF-noise environments, sound equipment operators may experience similar wireless dropouts, confirming environmental interference rather than equipment-specific failure
Depends on
- Larger antennas trade off portability for range
- Stronger receiver sensitivity might increase susceptibility to picking up additional interference
- The firmware issue appears specific to older units and may not apply to newer models
- One user's similar but not identical problem was resolved by the manufacturer, suggesting solutions vary by specific failure mode
