Side-to-side adjustment knob on Flyer camera rig stuck or difficult to turn
18 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The side-to-side adjustment knob should move with the same ease as the forward-backward adjustment knob.
- Stiff side-to-side adjustment can be resolved by loosening the button head socket screws on the stage top, then re-torquing them gradually while testing the cross shaft for binding.
- If re-torquing the button head screws does not solve the problem, the set screws in the dovetail can be backed off by approximately 1/16 of a turn, then the button heads can be re-tightened while ensuring the dovetail plate has no play.
- Over-tightening the adjustment screws can create excessive play in the dovetail plate and requires careful repositioning to achieve smooth operation.
Depends on
- The specific hex size mentioned (1/8 inch) and screw locations apply to the Flyer camera rig model discussed; compatibility with other models is unclear.
- The procedure requires trial and adjustment to find the correct torque point.
- No technical reason for the initial stiffness was identified in the discussion.
