Powering a BFD follow focus receiver from a Red One camera
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The 12V auxiliary power outputs on a Red One camera are current-limited and cannot reliably power a BFD follow focus receiver.
- A BFD receiver should be powered directly from a P-tap connection on the battery cradle rather than from camera accessory ports.
- The auxiliary power outputs on HD video cameras are generally designed only for small accessories and lack the amperage capacity needed for follow focus motors.
- A dedicated P-tap to BFD power cable is the recommended solution for powering focus receivers on Red One cameras.
Depends on
- The exact amperage specifications of the Red One's auxiliary ports were not definitively stated in the discussion.
- Experience was limited to Red One cameras; compatibility with other camera models was not addressed.
