Improving grip on gimbal handles to prevent slipping from sweat
19 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- Wrapping gimbal handles with tennis racket grip tape improves traction and makes the handle feel larger and easier to hold
- Bicycle handlebar tape can be applied diagonally around gimbal grips and secured with electrical tape for a smooth, non-slip finish
- Non-slip tape designed for boating applications can be wrapped around gimbal posts to enhance grip
- Fingerless gloves with padded palms and no-slip material provide another solution for maintaining control during operation
- A knurled aluminum collar can be machined to fit over gimbal handles, though this is more expensive than tape solutions
- Combining grip modifications with improved camera tethering methods enhances overall operating control and precision
Depends on
- Most solutions are described as working for specific equipment models or personal preferences rather than being universally tested
- The discussion focuses on the Sachtler Artemis EFP HD as a reference point, so applicability to other gimbals is not confirmed
- Recommendations for specific tape brands and sources were provided but may not reflect current product availability
- Some modifications are presented as personal workarounds rather than manufacturer-recommended solutions
