Adding rods to Steadicam Zephyr for wireless follow focus system
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A quick-release plate with integrated rods can be mounted on a Steadicam Zephyr dovetail to support follow focus equipment
- Full-length rail systems designed for follow focus can be attached to the Zephyr platform to accommodate motor mounts
- A counterweight system can be added to the rods when using lightweight cameras to improve balance and stability
- Third-party manufacturers offer dovetail plates and bracket solutions specifically made for Zephyr that allow rod mounting
- Small adjustment screws on some quick-release rail systems may wear out over time with frequent use and should be monitored
Depends on
- Solutions are specific to the Zephyr model
- One user reported that some commercial rail systems use small screws that are prone to wearing with heavy use
- The specific camera model affects which mounting solutions are compatible
- Users did not report on long-term durability of these systems
