Using electronic gimbals with vest and arm rigs instead of handheld operation
What the thread found
- A motorized gimbal mounted on a vest and arm system becomes significantly more fatiguing to operate than a traditional Steadicam sled because the gimbal's larger footprint prevents holding it close to the body, creating an unbalanced load on the operator
Depends on
- Experience limited to demonstration and trade show use rather than production work
- The Steadimate vest paired with an Exovest was noted as best for eliminating footsteps but was slightly more tiring than regular Steadicam operation
- Anti-gravity rigs showed improved boom range but had difficulties eliminating footsteps and were cumbersome on practical sets with low ceilings and doorways
- EasyRig made footstep elimination difficult and was unsuitable for tall operators due to height constraints
- Load capacity and weight limits vary depending on specific vest and arm combination used
