Mounting a Steadicam® rig with large, heavy lenses: long camera plate configuration and lens support setup.

What the thread found

  • A long camera plate mounted directly to the top stage eliminates the need for an intermediate VCT plate, reducing overall weight and height; this Longplate configuration fits standard stages, with a -M variant for mid-sized Tiffen stages such as Archer 2, Zephyr, and Scout.
  • A lens support (LensLift) is mounted either on the plate or on 15 mm rods positioned beneath the lens and secured from above with a one-way tension band to minimize vibration.
  • Height adjustment of the lens support is achieved via threaded screws of different lengths supplied with the unit; the final lens height depends on the position of the lens mount relative to the camera's underside.
  • When large front lens elements would contact the plate, move the camera forward so the front element extends beyond the plate edge.
