Powering follow focus motors and accessories from DSR450 AB power output
20 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The AB power tap on top of the camera can supply both a Bartech follow focus and an M-type motor simultaneously without immediate problems
- The 4-pin Hirose connector at the back of the camera is unreliable for powering accessories and blows fuses easily
- Running follow focus equipment from the top AB output on DSR450 can cause the camera to crash and require battery removal to cold restart
- Using a single external IDX battery caused the battery fuse to blow when tuning the motor, but two external IDX batteries only occasionally blew a fuse
- Powering follow focus accessories from Nicad batteries was more stable than from IDX lithium batteries on this camera model
Depends on
- The camera crash occurred in one specific real-world shooting scenario and may depend on total power draw or specific camera firmware
- The fuse blowing behavior with IDX batteries was inconsistent rather than consistent
- Setup included additional power draw from a motorized lens adapter
