Back-mount configuration on Exovest: Xbone versus X3 with extra arm section for long broadcast days
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- A Walter-Klassen adapter mounted on the Exovest makes back-mount feel similar to front-mount according to one operator, with the main difference becoming apparent only with a complete Walter-Klassen vest.
- Rubber or elastomer spring solutions are recommended over metal springs because they are significantly softer and more comfortable.
- The third arm section (X3) becomes necessary primarily when using a PRO Arm, with very large operator build, or with short sleds such as ARRI Trinity or ARRI Artemis, when boom range must come from the arm itself.
Depends on
- Comfort perception depends on operator body type and torso length.
- Arm section necessity depends on rig configuration, camera package, and operator height.
