Standard practices for applying hook and loop velcro to camera equipment
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The soft side of velcro should be attached to the camera body and rigging, while the hard side should be attached to accessories and items being mounted to the camera
- This practice keeps the uncomfortable and adhesive-prone hard side covered and facing outward on accessories rather than against the operator or camera surface
Depends on
- The guideline may not apply universally to all accessories; some monitor shades and tally sensors have been observed with non-standard velcro configurations
- The reason for exceptions in commercial products is unclear and may reflect manufacturing convenience rather than deliberate design choice
- Discussion limited to standard camera rigging practices and does not extensively explore mounting to other surfaces like sleds or monitors
