Betz Wave losing horizon stability after pan whips with Sony Venice; slow 10–20 second realignment.
What the thread found
- Check whether the problem appeared after lowering the camera by rolling the rig sideways with the Wave powered off; if the camera drifts downward, the sled is bottom-heavy on the roll axis and balance is unsuitable.
- Low motor power combined with excessive camera weight at the bottom can produce exactly this behavior; re-raising the camera position, though counterintuitive, may be necessary.
- Dynamically balance the sled to reduce tilting during sharp pans.
- Several operators observed that the Wave requires a warm-up period after power-on; after approximately 1.5 minutes of stationary rest, all LEDs blink and the unit appears to recalibrate, after which performance improves.
- Troubleshooting steps included testing a second Wave unit, alternative cables, and different power supplies, as well as increasing motor power.
Depends on
- Camera weight and rig geometry.
- Motor power settings.
- Warm-up and calibration behavior of the Wave unit.
