Correct docking position and procedure for the Pilot steadicam
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Pilot should be docked underneath the stage rather than under the gimbal.
- Docking under the gimbal creates stability problems because the rig becomes unbalanced and risks tipping or falling.
- The docking bracket includes pins designed to prevent the sled from sliding off the bracket.
- If the sled is not positioned far enough back on the docking bracket during docking, the pins can scratch the underside of the stage.
- Proper bracket positioning ensures the pins function as intended without causing damage.
Depends on
- The manual was referenced but not quoted directly.
- Advice from 2013 may not apply to current Pilot versions or other steadicam models.
- Experience reported from individual users rather than manufacturer testing.
