Troubleshooting a Chosziel Genio follow focus receiver showing error lights and motor power failure after a drop
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A receiver box displaying red error lights and failing to power the motor can result from a broken solder connection on the toroidal inductor inside the sealed board compartment.
- Opening the sealed metal box housing the toroidal inductor and re-soldering the broken connection restored full functionality to a receiver that had suffered a drop.
- Prior calibration issues such as the lens moving off-center after adjustment and tracking problems can indicate early receiver malfunction.
- A workaround for tracking problems involves disconnecting the motor, setting the lens near infinity, using the remote to move to infinity, then reconnecting the motor at the lens end to restore full motor range without risk of burnout.
Depends on
- The solution required opening sealed internal components, which may void warranties or require specialized skills.
- Only one case of this specific solder failure was reported in the thread.
- The drop was from a relatively low height and may not have been the direct cause of the solder failure.
