Creaking noise in boom arm during slow vertical movement
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A groaning or creaking sound that occurs when booming up and down slowly may indicate loose arm cover screws that need to be retightened evenly.
- The ring attached to the spring terminal can contact the arm if twisted slightly, causing creaking noise during boom movement.
- Applying ACF-50 lubricant to the arm can reduce creaking sounds.
- Removing and reinstalling the springs during maintenance may eliminate twisting in the ring that causes contact noise.
- The creaking typically does not occur during rapid boom movements, only during slow movements.
Depends on
- The discussion involves multiple potential causes without systematic testing of each solution.
- The spring terminal ring solution requires disassembly and inspection to confirm it is the actual source of noise.
- The discussion references specific arm models but does not clearly establish which solution applies to which model.
