Correcting V2 gimbal pan imbalance and axis misalignment issues
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A gimbal can develop axis misalignment over time due to wear and tear, particularly in the yoke bearing where even small deviations of a few thousandths of a millimeter can significantly affect performance.
- Imbalance during panning may result from incorrect dynamic balance settings related to monitor and battery positioning relative to the centerpost and camera center of gravity, rather than gimbal defect.
- Play in the yoke bearing is often the source of x-axis misalignment in V2 gimbals and can be adjusted to correct the problem.
- All three axes must intersect at the same point and the pan bearing must rotate around the exact centerpoint of the post for proper gimbal function.
- When a gimbal is trimmed and then panned 90 degrees, any axis offset becomes more apparent as the rig settles.
Depends on
- The yoke bearing play adjustment method described appears specific to individual gimbal units and may not apply universally to all V2 models.
- The discussion does not conclusively establish whether yoke bearing asymmetry is a design feature or results from wear.
- No specific measurement tolerances or adjustment procedures were provided for other potential misalignment scenarios beyond the yoke bearing.
